In Queensland, you can apply for your learner licence once you turn 16 and have passed either the PrepL online course or the written road rules test. 

You can apply for your Provisional (P1) licence once you: 

• Turn 17 
• Have held your learner licence for at least 12 months 
• Have completed 100 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night (if you're under 25) 
• Have passed both the Hazard Perception Test and the Practical Driving Test

Every learner is different, but a typical learning pathway might look like this: 

• Learner’s permit obtained  
• 1 x 2-hour Introductory Lesson + Driver Assessment Report  
• 2–4 x 1.5-hour Standard Lessons (ideally 1 per week)  
• After 60 hours: 1–2 x 1.5-hour Standard Lessons  
• After 80 hours: 1–3 x 1.5-hour Standard Lessons  
• After 90 hours: 1 x 2-hour Mock Test + Driver Assessment Report  
• After 100 hours: 1 x 2.5-hour Test Day Package 

Note: This is a general guide. Some students may need fewer lessons, while others may benefit from additional support based on their progress and confidence.

The Driver Assessment Report provides a detailed summary of a student's driving abilities and readiness for the practical driving test. 

It covers key assessment areas including: 

• Pre-drive checks Specific driving situations 
• Manoeuvres 
• Vehicle operation 
• Hazard perception 

During the Introductory Lesson, we focus mainly on pre-drive checks, typical driving scenarios, and foundational manoeuvres. 

Other areas, like hazard perception and vehicle operation, are included for reference and addressed in later lessons or mock tests. 

The report helps identify strengths and areas for improvement early in the learning journey.

The Introductory Lesson is our first chance to understand the student's driving experience, knowledge, and learning style. Since every student is at a different stage, this session allows us to tailor the training from day one. 

 The lesson includes: 

• A 10–15 minute discussion about the student’s background and self-assessed ability 
• A full vehicle introduction and cockpit drill Explanation of key controls, safety features, and pre-drive check requirements 
• Multiple driving segments with feedback, technique instruction, and practice time Use of dual controls to assist newer drivers as needed 
• A final review to highlight achievements, development areas, and next steps 
• This comprehensive approach builds confidence, sets a strong foundation, and ensures students start their journey on the right foot.

Every learner progresses at their own pace, but we generally recommend completing the required 100 hours of supervised driving over a 9–12 month period. This timeline aligns with Queensland’s requirement to hold a learner licence for at least 12 months before taking the practical test. 

 Here’s a suggested approach: 

• Start early with the Introductory Lesson 
• Take 2–3 follow-up lessons within the first few weeks 
• Maintain 1 x 1.5-hour lesson per week for consistency 
• Schedule night lessons gradually to reach the 10-hour requirement 
• Book mock tests 2–4 weeks before your driving test to boost confidence and readiness 
• You can sit the Hazard Perception Test after holding your learner licence for 6 months.
